Switching energy suppliers when renting
If you’re a tenant, but responsible for the energy bills, the good news is you can legally switch energy supplier.
Landlords and letting agents can’t stop you switching unless they have a very good reason. Some landlords may include a ‘preferred supplier’ clause in rental agreements. They can’t enforce this though, so you don’t have to use the company named in their contract.
It's worth letting your landlord know if you switch so they can tell the next tenant when you move out.
