Paying more than expected
If you’re seeing higher than expected charges on your online account you may be using more energy than you realise.
There could be several reasons for this:
- Your appliances are using more energy than you thought, or you’re using extra gadgets.
- It’s winter so you’re using more energy than during the summer.
- You’ve extended your home.
- You’ve had extra people living or staying with you.
- It’s possible that your smart meter’s faulty and ‘clocking’ too fast.
If you have a smart meter, it’s best to set your preferences to half-hourly readings. This way you’ll see what you’ve used more precisely and spot any spike in your energy use.
